My work is a reflective body of art used to comprehend and examine my previous and current relationships while reflecting upon the human condition and creating mixed media forms that utilize the human figure. Creating is how I cope with my unconventional relationships. Constructing sculptures allows me the ability to navigate the complex events in my life, for instance, my origins as an artist began through dance, theater, and the craft-person's perspective, where everything needs to be precise and appealing to the eye at completion. Craft does not require a meaning or message behind its creation. My exposure to the fine arts has shown that perfection and bluntly stating your meaning is unnecessary. Making people feel emotions, whether they are “good” or “bad”, or provoking a thought process is the difference between craft art and fine art. For me, the level of craftsmanship being weighted as equally as the concept is important. Since this realization, I have utilized my body to construct work through mold making, casting, blacksmithing, and three-dimensional printing. My material choices are based experimentally, I choose materials I have never worked with before. Working through the problems of using a new material, alongside another you are familiar with, is intriguing because of the contrasting reactions between components. I work with metal because it is thought to be solid, stable, and masculine, when, in reality, it is one of the simplest materials to manipulate and can be used in conjunction with a plethora of mediums, and yet can stand on its own. Connecting with people is one of my strong suits, in turn my work should help contrasting, or dissimilar, people to be able to have a conversation and connect with one another on a fundamental level. My work should bring forth conversation and debate between people from all walks of life, we are all human figures and can connect using this alone.
